Dreams of opening my day spa would spend hours in 10×10 cabinet planning service menu, the decor, the marketing theme, the perfect location. I have zero hours thinking of the management of personnel, accounting, and dealing with health issues.
Visit any competitor spas, medical spas, salons with spas, solo practitioner, hotel and spa in a 15 miles radius of my target location. Get their brochures, ask about “what are you familiar” with the reception, an event and go home and cancel my appointment. Although the service processes are important, they will not help attract new customers in a startup – is above the external image of your company attract new customers.
Granted, dream about a fairly large spa in reality we all have to make compromises with startup costs and trusted adviser who is most crucial to your success. If you look at the most successful spas they have a team of trusted advisor in place.
Not unique to the world, unique to my local competition. Have a website that sells and service menu for me. Automatic e-mail capture, online scheduling, online gift certificates and sales of products, automated tracking and website reports. Train staff in customer service and referral building so much, or perhaps more than my technical training. Do not hire independent contractors in my dream spa. Marketing is not just ads and postcards; it is also a part of the daily protocols, service levels, tone, attitude and emotional feeling of the spa. I want to partner with a nearby business or charity for joint publicity. Publicity is the added value of creating credibility and the intangible “buzz”.
